Legacy Portraits
This collection comprises 75 portraits celebrating Brandeis faculty, staff, students, alumni and their children from 1952 to the present. It encapsulates the enduring values and interconnectedness within our vibrant community. I intend to inspire viewers to reflect on our shared identity and the profound legacy of Brandeis for future generations.
To create these portraits, I rendered each individual from photos graciously contributed by members of our community. I laser engraved the portraits onto wood salvaged from local trees, infusing the artwork with a sense of local heritage and environmental consciousness.
Each portrait serves as a unique thread woven into the tapestry of our community, each one reflecting our shared journey and collective experiences. In the process of creating this series, I found myself reflecting on the relationships forged during my own Brandeis experience. Each person I met contributed to my story, influencing the path that led me to where I stand today.
My husband and three amazing children - Amelia, Abigail, and Jake - inspired and drove this vision. Their encouragement propelled me forward through each step of the creative process. In addition, my parents' unwavering support has been the bedrock of my journey, instilling in me the determination to pursue my passions and dreams.

Process: From photos to finished portrait
For engraving, I employ two types of lasers: CO2 and dioxide lasers. Each laser offers distinct capabilities, creating variations in depth and texture that add dimensionality to the artwork. The CO2 laser produces deeper engravings with a uniform pattern, while the dioxide laser introduces subtle gradients for a more lifelike effect.

Nestled within the vibrant tapestry of Brandeis University lies a collective memory—a repository of experiences, connections, and narratives that define its essence. I was deeply moved by the outpouring of participation and the stories shared by those who submitted their photos. Each image served as a portal to a cherished memory, offering a glimpse into the myriad of experiences that shape the Brandeis journey.
Where it started.
What is a legacy? It's not just the buildings or the academic achievements; it's the people, the stories, and the impact that lasts for generations. Each person who steps foot on the Brandeis campus leaves an indelible mark, creating a unique and enduring legacy. Reflecting on my own journey, I realized that countless untold stories exist, waiting to be shared.
