Where it started.
Discovering the Festival of the Arts grant a few weeks before the application deadline turned out to be a serendipitous moment for me. As I brainstormed potential projects for the festival, my gaze shifted towards my lively kids running around. It struck me— they are the living embodiment of the legacy and impact that Brandeis University has had on my life.
During my sophomore year at Brandeis, I found myself as a stage manager for the captivating production, Lot's Daughters. In need of someone for a particular scene, the director enlisted the help of his roommates, and that's how I crossed paths with Mark. Little did I know that this chance encounter would lead to a significant chapter in my life. Fast forward 14 years and three kids later, I am continually grateful that Brandeis played a pivotal role in bringing us together.
What is a legacy? It's not just the buildings or the academic achievements; it's the people, the stories, and the impact that lasts for generations. Each person who steps foot on the Brandeis campus leaves an indelible mark, creating a unique and enduring legacy. Reflecting on my own journey, I realized that countless untold stories exist, waiting to be shared.
This realization gave birth to the idea of "Legacy Portraits." Inspired by the impact of my time at Brandeis, Legacy Portraits aims to spotlight 75 stories from the past, present, and future. It's a celebration of the diverse narratives that contribute to the rich tapestry of the Brandeis legacy.
Through this project, I hope to encapsulate the essence of Brandeis—the laughter, the connections, the milestones, and the transformative moments. Legacy Portraits will serve as a visual and narrative chronicle, highlighting the profound influence that Brandeis has had on individuals and their lives.
As I embark on this venture, I can't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. The project's outcome is unpredictable, much like the diverse and unpredictable paths that Brandeis alumni, students, and faculty tread. Legacy Portraits is not just about the past; it's an ongoing exploration of the impact that Brandeis will continue to have on the lives of those who are yet to experience it.
Legacy Portraits is more than just a project; it's a testament to the enduring impact of Brandeis University on the lives of its community members. As I dive into capturing these stories, I am reminded that the legacy we leave is not just a memory but a living, breathing testament to the transformative power of education and connection. I look forward to unveiling the diverse narratives that make up the Brandeis legacy through the lens of Legacy Portraits.
