Camping Shirts

Crafting Custom Shirts for Our Camping Adventure

Our recent camping trip with nine other families was an adventure we’ll never forget! Spending the weekend with friends in the great outdoors was an absolute blast. Between the ten families, we had 26 kids running around! This was our first group camping trip, and while it was incredibly fun, the lead-up was a bit nerve-wracking for my anxious brain. How was I going to keep track of my three kids amidst so many?

That’s when inspiration struck—I decided to make custom shirts for my crew. Not only would these shirts serve as a memento from the weekend, but they’d also make it easier to spot my kids in the crowd. Once the idea took hold, there was no stopping me. I reached out to the other families to see who else wanted shirts. Each family enthusiastically agreed, and soon, we had a plan: each family would get a different color shirt.

The Shirt-Making Process

Here’s how I brought this colorful project to life:

1. Ordering Supplies I ordered different colored shirts for each family and some glow-in-the-dark heat transfer vinyl (HTV). The glow-in-the-dark feature was a hit with the kids!

2. Designing the Shirts Using Cricut Design Space, I picked a fun image and sliced it to make it two different colors. This added a nice touch and allowed for some creative flair.

3. Cutting the Vinyl Next, I cut all the images out of the vinyl using my Cricut machine. This part required some patience, but it was exciting to see the designs start to take shape.

4. Weeding the Vinyl Weeding involves removing the excess vinyl from around the cut designs. It’s a meticulous process, but it’s essential for clean and precise results.

5. Assembling the Designs Once all the pieces were weeded, I put the designs together. Seeing the final design come together was incredibly satisfying.

6. Pressing the Designs Using the Cricut heat press, I carefully applied the designs to all the shirts. The heat press ensures that the vinyl adheres properly to the fabric, making the designs durable and long-lasting.

7. Adding a Personal Touch To commemorate our trip, I added “Pine Lake 2024” to the front of each t-shirt. This little detail made the shirts even more special.

8. Distributing the Shirts Finally, I handed out the shirts to each family. Seeing the kids’ excitement as they received their custom shirts was priceless. They loved the glow-in-the-dark feature and couldn’t wait to run around the campsite showing them off.

The custom shirts were a huge hit and added an extra layer of fun to our camping trip. They made it easy to keep track of the kids and served as a unique souvenir from our adventure.
